                            BLURB:

A woman torn between two men-One she once loved and another who threatens to destroy all she's worked for.
Tormented by the rumors plaguing her once loveless marriage, young widow Emma Winston escapes to Breakish in the Isle of Skye with her two children. But her hopes of a new beginning is shattered as she finds herself torn between the man she once loved, her brother-in-law Richard Winston and wealthy, handsome playboy, Chris Cameron who threatens to destroy everything she's accomplished if she doesn't accept his offer of a convenient marriage.
Will Emma finally learn to follow her heart?

Roseanna's Review:

*There are slight spoilers that were unavoidable to accurately describe what I thought of this book. I tried to limit them. *
I am on the fence with this book.  The overall beginning has too much of going back and forth from present day to past. I generally like to read about things happening as they occur, or just a reflection or two of the past, but the amount of energy keeping up with past and present was just too much. It would have been better to have one chapter in the beginning set up the stage for current day.  After many chapters in, the big build up was occurring, and the time hopping stopped. I began to actually like Emma and her little family. New characters were coming into the story, and it worked well. From the synopsis of the book, I was expecting Richard to follow her to the Isle. After reading him showing up, I don’t really think that he followed her, as much as was just checking on her. Richard was weak willed and a total let down to me. I am trying not to give too many spoilers here; it’s tough because to say what I did not like about the book does give spoilers away. So I will do my best here. After Richard left the Isle for business, she is left looking for a date to a dance. Considering her options, which were funny to read about, she decided to let Ethel fix her up. Let’s just say it turned out to be the date from Hades. Ugh, I would have clubbed the guy with my shoe! Meeting every dating disaster, the date ends. But then suddenly she is supposed to not only see the grandson of her friend, they propose the most outlandish situation. This is where Emma starts going weak willed. She follows what everyone is telling her to do, blindly.  This leads up to her standing ground with Richard, and she comes to realize her relationship/feelings with Richard may not be all they seemed to be. So she follows this plan to appease her friend and Chris’s grandmother.  Chris’s behavior was all over the freaking place, made me wonder if he needed medication. Seriously, I did not think their relationship ever blossomed. Near the end, it was like oh yeah, I love you. Really? Didn't see that one coming. The end was so rushed, and it seemed so forced compared to all the other chapters of this book.  I did enjoy seeing and the development of other relationships in this book like between Ethel and the children, and some of the children and Chris. Nancy and Theodore were great sub characters. The romance level of this book is practically nonexistent.  Honestly, if the writer left off the forced romance side of the book while rewriting only the widow making a new home for her and her family it would have been much better. It could be about learning to live again after the death of a loved one. Or was he truly a loved one? It could have been about her focused on learning about the man she truly married, that this version hinted about.

Satin Sheets Welcomes Author Christie Kelley - What do you like to read?

Thank you having me today!  I thought it would be fun to talk about historical romance, how much the subgenre has changed over the past thirty years, and my personal keepers. When I first started reading historical romance, the stories were long, adventure filled books that could take place over years. We were taken from the Caribbean to Russia and many lands in between. Even being a fast reader, it could take me days to finish one of those lush books. These were the books with the reputation that came to be known as bodice rippers.

I miss those books…well, some of them. Some, I will admit, were more like rape than a slightly forceful sex scene. That is not the part I miss. I long for the exotic destinations like St. Petersburg, Nassau, Italy, France, and yes, even the USA.

With many authors self-publishing today, we are finally seeing some differing locales, but the mainstream publishers haven’t picked up the concept again. I think one reason we see a lull in historicals every few years is people get tired of every book being set in England or Scotland. The readers move onto a different subgenre of romance until they tire of all the millionaires and secret babies, then they come back to historical romances.

I doubt we’ll ever go back to the long historical, though. This is something I can understand. I work full time, write when I can, have two almost grown sons, and very little time for reading. I have been reading one of my favorite author’s books for over a week now and I’m only halfway through it. The book is not poorly written and it’s not dull. It’s a lovely story. I just haven’t had the time to put into reading this wonderful book. Years ago, I would have been done with that book in two days or less.
So, as I’m sure you have guessed by now, not only do I write historical romance, it is also my favorite subgenre to read. Some of my favorite authors are Johanna Lindsay, Julia Quinn, Christina Dodd, Victoria Alexander and Kathleen Woodiwiss.

I thought it would be fun to discuss keepers. The books you go back to over and over until you have to buy a new copy because you’ve worn out the old one. Of course, with e-books that won’t be a problem.

One of my top keepers is A Heart So Wild by Johanna Lindsay. First, I love this story because it’s set in the western US but the hero isn’t really a cowboy. I always found this to be a very magical story. It is one story that makes me cry almost every time I read it.

Next on my list is Judith Ivory’s The Proposition, because who doesn’t love a hero who’s a rat catcher. If you haven’t read this one, I can’t recommend it enough. I just pulled it off my bookshelf so I can reread it again because it’s been a couple of years.

So what are some of your keepers? No, they don’t have to be historical or even romance. Anything is fair game. Just tell me about that one book you reread every year or so because it touches your heart.
And what do you think about seeing exotic locations? Do you love them? Don’t care either way? Tell me how you feel.

Thank you so much for sharing with us!

Be sure to check out Christie's latest release!

Blurb:
In the dark alleys of the St Louis riverfront sits a club known only to those evil enough to enter. The club is called The Master’s Lair. It is frequented by the evil underbelly of the supernatural world. Lilith is a beautiful succubus entertaining nightly in the Lair.

Lilith has grown bored with her life. She is ready for more. The Master has promised her release from her succubus bonds is possible, except the price may be higher than she can afford.

Alex is hell bent on revenge. An angel that watched his sister die in the clutches of a goblin drug ring, his main mission is to end their reign of death. Going undercover as a fallen angel he throws himself into danger going inside The Master’s Lair.

Meeting the beautiful Lilith wasn’t part of his revenge plan. Yet, something in him wants to be her redemption. Alex wonders if he can be the one to help Lilith attain the freedom she seeks or will he endanger them both?

Natalie Gibson's Review:

Lilith, the succubus, does little more than exist, granted her existence is sparkling and long lasting, filled with all the lovers she wants and needs to feel satisfied.  She was orphaned and didn't know who or what she was until she took a vampire home and they tried to feed from each other - he told her the truth and took her to The Master's Lair.  There she could feed from a world of immortals capable of feeding her without dying.  It worked for a while but she soon realized she was bound to that place and Master told her the only way to break that bond was to find love.

Alex, the angel, is undercover as fallen to try and expose the goblin drug ring that led to the death of his sister.  The best place to find these powerful and dangerous criminals was The Master's Lair.  He was all business when he entered but gained a second mission after watching Lilith dance and winning a night with her at the Master's poker table.

No man, demon, or fallen angel of any sort has EVER been able to resist Lilith when she laid on the charm.  It doesn't take her long to discover Alex's secret.  He seems to genuinely care about her but can they develop love without sex?  It seems unlikely to her, whose world revolves around carnal pleasures.

This story is set in the same world as Dariel Raye's Untameable Heat: Kaden's Reprieve.  They can be read in either order.  I think it is interesting that in Kaden's story they thought they would have a one night stand and jumped right in with the sex but Lilith's story was about waiting - and it was about a succubus.  It was good writing that the one who could free Lilith is an angel but he can't sleep with her as long as her soul is compromised. To do so would be to 'fall' and neither of them want that for Alex.

The setting was nice - The Master's Lair reminded me of the demon club in Lilith Saintcrow's Kismet Series, a place you want to go but don't want to get caught!  All types of super beings gather there to get what they hunger for.  The two characters go through some change and evolve, mostly in the way they think and through their prejudices.  There are some really good scenes in there and I enjoyed the short read.

Angela's Satin Sheet Review of Brave In Heart by Emma Barry

Monday-October 28,2013-Satin Sheets Review of Brave In Heart by Emma Barry

Title:  Brave In Heart

Author:  Emma Barry

Author’s Website:  www.emmabarry.com

Genre:  Historical Fiction

Length:  150 pages

Find It On:  Amazon

Theodore Ward is a man of deep passions and strong principles - none of which he acts on. So Margaret Hampton ends their engagement, breaking both of their hearts in the process.

Years after their estrangement, ardent but frozen Theo attempts to reconnect with Margaret. She is no longer trusting of the idea of romantic love, having become pragmatic and wary during decades alone. But with the drumbeat of the early days of the Civil War in the background, how can she refuse?

The courtship that results is hasty, reckless, and intense, fueled by contradictions between Theo’s willingness finally to change and Margaret’s fears about the future. Two smart, stubborn, fiery people will need to overcome the hesitancies of their hearts and the perils of battle if they’re ever to find happiness.

Angela’s Review:

This was a true historical read set during the start of the Civil War, and the book was well-written in a grammatical sense.  The scenery was well-depicted, however I had mixed feelings regarding the pace of the storyline.

The author did an amazing job at bringing the characters to life, and there were many heartfelt moments that brought a tear to my eye while reading. I totally got the need for the heroine to get out of a relationship, with a man who could not be prompted to action, but to give up love in exchange for a lifetime of teaching social comportment to young women, is hardly the better alternative in my opinion.

By the middle of the read, I was a bit more hooked and loved the compassion Theo brought to the picture and the historical aspects of the Civil War. It took me longer to warm up to Margaret, as she was so distant for the majority of the read. Once she started showing her emotion, I enjoyed her character very much.  That is when the read became most enjoyable.

Overall, this story was okay. I found the ending to be a bit abrupt, as the sex scenes went from behind closed doors at the beginning to “in your face” towards the end. It was an awkward shift, and not at all the tone that was initiated at the beginning. If you like mid-19th century historical romances, Brave In Heart by Emma Barry is worth a try.

Nanee's Review of Closure by Angela Ford

The only place to escape the danger is her family beach home. She hadn’t been there since her parents were murdered. The level of intensity climbs higher with her discovery of postcards marked “I Crave You”. Old ghosts, secrets, imminent threats and an inevitable attraction to Tom send her on an emotional roller coaster. If that wasn’t enough, she opens the door to a man she thought was dead. Tom is stabbed and his case files go missing…high emotions put Jess at the killer’s mercy.

Nanee's Review:

Although short I enjoyed this book full of intrigue, mystery, family and love. Jess and Tom are on a team of profilers that track Online predators and they are on a case that leads back to Jess herself. Blasts from the pasts and sadness overwhelm Jess when she remembers her child hood, I thought the author captured her feelings perfectly.  The characters We're great , I thought Jess and Tom were perfect for each other and hoped they would share their love for each other. As the book continues secrets are shared, pasts are put behind and love is found. Very sweet, intriguing and loving book.

Doug's Review of Archangel's Legion by Nalini Singh

Title: Archangel's Legion
Author: Nalini Singh
Author's Website: Nalinin Singh Website
Publisher: Jove/Penguin Group
Genre: Epic Paranormal Romance with Thriller/Suspense
Length: approx 384 pgs
Buy Link: Archangel's Legion

Summary:

Angels are falling from the sky in New York, struck down by a vicious, unknown force.

Vampires are dying impossibly of disease.

Guild hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael must discover the source of the wave of death before it engulfs their city and their people, leaving New York a ruin and Raphael’s Tower under siege by enemy archangels.

Yet even as they fight desperately to save the city, an even darker force is stirring, its chill eyes trained on New York…and on Raphael. Rivers of crimson and nightmares given flesh, the world will never again be the same…

Doug's Review:

Where do I start with this book? How about it falls into the category where I want more than 5 Stars to rate it? It grabbed me almost from the first pages and never let go until the breathless ending.

Angels have died, some vampires (who never get sick) have contracted an incurable illness that appears to be a weapon, the world is at the brink of war and that is just the start of things. Needless to say, I am officially notifying you that boredom is not within these pages.

The romance between Raphael and Elena which we might have forgotten a bit is brought back to us in this novel as a force that is unending and is the type that makes “life is not worth living without you” become a statement of fact and not just a proclamation of love.

Most of this novel is spent on a trilogy of plotlines:

-The depth of the love of Raphael and Elena

-The mystery of who and why concerning the illness/damage to the angels/vampires of Raphael’s New York

-Elena’s family history and current situation (we get a bit more info on her family’s past)

I say “most” because the final few chapters are more action oriented in the typical epic mold, I found the ending of this book on the level of the ending of “Return of the King”, high praise indeed folks.

I am not going to disassemble the plots in this review since that is why we read books but this is a great book and somewhere in the final 100 pages you will have to remember to breathe it gets so intense.

Hang on for a wild ride but the ending would not be as intensive if not for the skillful way that Ms. Singh manipulates her readers into the proper mood to make the ending the high mark that it is, well done once more by one of the genre’s best authors.

5 Stars because that is all I can give, it is worth more, trust me.

Bottom Line: This paragraph is almost a repeat of an earlier one but it belongs here. This is what 5 Star reading should be, having you glued to the pages and leaving you with a thirst for more without making you mad that the book ended. A romance for the ages and a overarching story that you can't stop thinking about until the next book. Make no mistake, on the 29th of October when this is released, THIS is what you need to be reading. Just a clue, you won't understand the title until the last couple of chapters. There are books that are just as good (a very few) but there are none I can say are better, this is one of those that falls into the "THIS is why I read these books" category that has a extremely small number of books as it's companion.

Reviewer's Note: I would strongly suggest that any reader start with book 1 of this series to enjoy the excellence of this novel.

Patricia's Review of The Prince Charming Hoax by Elyse Grant

THE PRINCE CHARMING HOAX

Author: Elyse Grant ( Click to visit website)
Publisher: Visual Impressions Publishing
Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance

To Purchase: Amazon and B&N

Blurb:
The Prince Charming Hoax is the steamy hot and often funny story of best friends Leah Gold and Roxanne Stein, two boomer women trying to break free of the “happily ever after” fairy tale myth of their childhoods. Abandoned by her latest Prince Charming on the eve of what she expected to be the start of a new life, Leah is left without a home or a man. Frustrated by yet another disappointment in a string of romantic fiasco  she begins an introspective journey through her past for answers. When she discovers what really stands between her and happiness, she sets off on a mission to help spare other women the pain of looking for love in all the wrong places—even though she knows her crusade could be a battle that destroys her real prince.

In contrast to the reclusive Leah, her well-heeled best friend, Roxie, teeters on the edge of self-destruction as she tries to satisfy her unquenchable thirst for excitement. Drugs and sex don't diminish her cravings, and the man she falls for, while charming, is no prince
On a crazy trip from South Florida to Philadelphia and New York, the duo stumble onto how to save themselves, each other, and perhaps womankind—surprising everyone, especially themselves.

PATRICIA’S REVIEW.
Lets just say reading this book made me think . Its a great book loved every page. It sucked you right into the lives of Leah and her best friend Roxie. With all their troubles with men, they just don’t know what to do . Leah a divorcee and coming off a bad break up with a married man and Roxie her carefree friend find that men and love aren't always the one and the same. As they negotiate their way through their messed up lives and realize they need to be the queen instead of a princess .  They start to prevail in their personal and professional lives . And sometimes the man of your dreams has been there the whole time and you just didn't realize it .
Even though this is a work of fiction it actually makes you think as you read . You think of all the dumb and laughable mistakes you made when you were younger to attract and keep a man. The hoops we jump through only to realize they were the wrong ones for us. You will laugh out loud and actually agree with a lot that goes on in the book. The characters are well written and are also flawed and sweet as they work their way through the world of men and wrong men.
I would recommend this book how loves a good story about good friends with a little romance thrown in and also a giggle or two . Leah and Roxie will give you the very thing you need in a good read.

LACE'S REVIEW:
This was a very easy to read story with the female torn between her ex lover and her new boyfriend. The passion and sex is steamy and you have no lack in that area. The characters were great and even there was some tragedy it made the story extremely enjoyable. The author didn't have you guessing but she kept me entertained.

Bram, the Viking, finds himself without future or inheritance as a younger son in his family. However, the Laird’s feisty daughter only holds animosity for him and his kind. Is marriage worth the battle scars of such a relentless opponent?

With the blame for a rival laird’s death treacherously set against the Liannons, Kaireen and Bram must find a way to lay aside their differences as an unforeseen darkness sends death snapping at their heels.

Catrina's Review:

Characters are well developed. I adored how feisty the heroine is. She has an inner strength I don't see much of in the world these days. Which also leads to one of her biggest flaws.
The hero is lovable, strong, protective, ect. I adore how he loved the heroine since before we met him. Sadly, that measure of true loyalty and devotion is sorely missing from the world these days.
The twists {some predictable, others not.} were creative and appropriate for the time period of the plot. Both characters learn some hard lessons.
